Institute of Active Polymers

The Institute of Active Polymers at Hereon performs research on multifunctional polymer materials and their interaction with living systems. Information-based design approaches aim at sustainable innovations for regenerative medicine, age-appropriate living and bio-based consumer products. The institute is located on the Hereon campus in Teltow near Berlin.

Your tasks:
  • 3D printing is particularly useful for prototyping
  • Instruments appropriate for the project tasks are selected or adapted
  • The lab's management
  • The organization of specialized software, equipment, and consumables for the operation and maintenance of the 3D printing lab
  • Installing new 3D printers
  • Establishment of workflows and training of other institute employees
  • Multifunctional multimaterial systems and devices designed and fabricated
  • Development of know-how in the areas of hardware, software, and topic-specific solutions (modeling, simulation) relating to the digitization of the material sciences.
Your profile:
  • Successfully completed an engineering degree (master level, university/university of applied science) in engineering, e.g. biomedical engineering, polymer processing technologies, Computer Science or equivalent education, training, and experience required
  • Work experience of 3-5 years is required
  • A track record of research and development experience in industry or a PhD in the field of this call with hands-on skills in setting up and handling instruments, digital design, and fabrication.
  • MS Office skills, simulation software (Vector Graphics, CAD software (such as AutoCAD Inventor), networking skills, and at least one programming language (e.g. MATLAB, Python, Java, C/C++, Processing, etc.).
  • Extensive experience with fabrication and rapid prototyping equipment, operation, and maintenance
  • Knowledge of technology and/or hardware documentation for end users
  • Instruction in technology and training experience
  • Expertise in writing scientific publications
  • Medical devices: knowledge of clinical applications
  • Ability to organize and communicate effectively
  • German language proficiency is required; applicants from outside the US are expected to maintain their German language proficiency over time.

Fundamental research at the Hereon-Institute of Active Polymers is focused on polymer-based biomaterials for medical applications. For our translational research on biomaterial-based medical devices for (pre-)clinical evaluation, we are looking to fill the position of an Engineer / Lab Manager 3D printing lab.
