Job Summary:

A full-time Research Technician II position is available at the Alzheimer’s Clinical & Translational Research Unit (ACTRU) under the direction of Dr. Steven Arnold. The ACTRU lab works broadly on clinical translation by utilizing cutting-edge technologies in digital health, neuroimaging, and molecular biomarkers to improve our understanding of Alzheimer’s disease mechanisms and validate novel therapeutics. The successful candidate should have a background in neuroscience, biomedical engineering, or a related discipline. The selected candidate would be trained in imaging data acquisition and analysis as primary responsibilities. The candidate would be expected to work with multimodal imaging datasets and therefore should have some background in data processing and/or programming. The Research Technician II will work closely with a large, cross-disciplinary team of researchers.

Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for data acquisition, validation, quality control systems and processing of neuroimaging research studies.
  • Generating data visualizations to support study analyses. Working with the PI, biostatical collaborator, and other study staff, generate appropriate data visualizations to support data analyses.
  • In conjunction with the Research Supervisor or Principal Investigator, develops and implements new neuroimaging research protocols including design, data collection systems, and institutional review board approval.
  • Develops, organizes, and/or maintains study operations and participant databases.
  • Works in concert with the Principal Investigator and/or Research Supervisor to develop and implement study recruitment, implementation, and retention strategies, as appropriate.
  • Initiates and maintains contact with study participants, as appropriate.
  • Screens potential participants to ensure they meet appropriate criteria and makes independent judgment as to the suitability of their participation, as appropriate.
  • Recommends changes to neuroimaging research protocols.
  • Performs literature searches as appropriate for neuroimaging-related topic areas.
  • Assists the principal investigator and/or Research Supervisor with preparation of research presentations and written published articles.
  • Document analysis pipelines, protocols, and procedures in Lab Archives.
  • Demonstrates leadership through training other staff on neuroimaging analysis tools and promoting a better understanding of health care data.
Working condition:

Incumbent will have a workspace in Building 149 in the Charlestown Navy Yard that is equipped with a networked computer. The successful applicant may also be expected to work from home and will be provided with the necessary technology/equipment to allow this. Visits to MGH-Main Campus in addition to local travel may occasionally be required.

Skills Required:
  • 2+ years of experience in positions that require analytical and technical skills in quantitative areas, ideally in neuroimaging areas.
  • Comfortable using the Linux command line and high-performance computing (e.g. Slurm/LSF)
  • Experience in Matlab and/or Python.
  • Excellent knowledge of statistical tools is required.
  • Well-developed organizational and analytical skills, excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Enthusiasm in learning new technologies and employing them in day-to-day usage.
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to resolve technical problems with minimal guidance.
  • High level competency with data wrangling.
  • Comfort with development tools such as docker, git, and virtual machines.
  • Experience with multi-modal neuroimaging techniques is a plus.
  • Able to work independently, with a minimum of supervision and direction
Experience:
  • 1 year of prior experience in a neuroscience-related field. 1 - 2 years of experience with implementing neuroimaging analysis tools in Matlab and/or Python.
