Description:
As a Biomedical Engineer Co-op, you will work on a multidisciplinary R&D team developing 3D human tissues for drug testing in vitro or for life-changing, cell-based tissue implants. You will be responsible for supporting the design, manufacturing, and testing of 3D human tissues for pre-clinical use or as therapeutic devices using Aspect's microfluidic bio printing technology. Developing bio printed tissues could transform the way we develop medicines and treat disease, and you will work closely with a team of engineers, cell biologists, and biomaterials experts.
What You’ll Do
- Develop, characterize, and validate bio printing processes for therapeutic purposes.
- Develop microfluidic print heads and printer accessories, including temperature controls and syringe pumps, to facilitate the processing of new biomaterials.
- Easily design, build, and test prototypes involving many physical domains, such as fluidics, mechanical, biological, and biomaterials.
- Perform tensile, degradation, and mechanical characterization tests on bio printed tissues.
- Contribute to disclosures of intellectual property, scientific discoveries, and other technical documents.
- Document all work thoroughly; promote documentation standards.
Who You Are
- Education: Student enrolled in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, engineering physics, or similar.
- Experience with fluid mechanics and CAD software: You have a solid background in fluid mechanics.
- Work experience in wet labs, 3D printing.
- Solver of problems with challenging constraints: Demonstrated ability to identify innovative solutions to problems with constraints.
- Effective Communicator: You have superior written and verbal communication skills. You are an active listener who can communicate to different audiences in diverse situations.
- Detail-oriented: You possess exceptional attention to detail, as well as process and experimental rigor. The work you do is something you take pride in, and you strive for excellence in it.
- You work with a sense of urgency, are results-oriented, and thrive in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary, and entrepreneurial environment. You are willing to roll up your sleeves and do what it takes to get the job done.
