Description:

A research fellow will be supported by the Ministry of Education Academic Research Fund, Tier-1 in the Choksi group at School of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering (SCBE). By utilizing electrocatalysts to convert CO2 into chemicals, the Research Fellow will advance fundamental knowledge. To understand catalytic processes at the molecular level, the Research Fellow will use electronic structure calculations, first principles thermodynamics, and microkinetic modeling.

Key Responsibilities:

• Calculate ab initio the properties of heterogeneous catalysts
• Using ab initio thermodynamics to determine catalytic structures under working conditions
• Calculate reaction rates based on microkinetic models.
• Analyze the stability of nanoparticle catalysts
• Collaborate with PhD students from Choksi's group and undergraduate researchers
• Deliver technical presentations and write papers

Job Requirements:

• ​PhD or equivalent in chemical engineering, chemistry, physics, material science, or related field
• Work experience ranging from 0-3 years after completing a PhD
• Expert experience with quantum mechanical and molecular modelling packages like VASP and Quantum ESPRESSO, as well as first principles thermodynamics and reaction kinetics.
• Python knowledge and experience with a Linux platform are a plus
• Think deeply and creatively and are intellectually curious
• Good interpersonal skills and enjoy working with cross-disciplinary teams
• Demonstrate proficiency in both written and spoken English
• Having the ability to work independently
