Founded in 2009 by serial entrepreneur Amr Salahieh, Shifamed LLC is a privately held medical technology incubator focused on the development of novel medical products to address clinical needs in the rapidly evolving fields of cardiology and ophthalmology. We are looking for medical device engineering talent interested in working in a fast-paced and innovative environment as Shifamed's portfolio of companies continues to grow. Shifamed LLC's portfolio company Tioga Medical provides transcatheter mitral and tricuspid valve replacement solutions that are procedurally simpler and less invasive. Currently, we are looking for a technician who is a creative and collaborative team player who can work both with direction and independently. You will join the Tioga team in its early stages and help us develop a product from proof of concept to being ready for clinical use.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Tioga requires a R&D Engineer to play a key role in the product's design and development, process optimization, and verification and validation testing to support the product's clinical use. As many of the essential functions of this role must be performed on site or in person, this role requires full COVID-19 vaccination (subject to any exemptions or accommodations due to medical or religious needs).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned on an individual basis:
- Hands-on prototyping and testing of devices, processes, and tests
- Develop and evaluate product designs as part of a cross-functional team
- Prepare technical documentation, including manufacturing instructions, test methods, protocols, and reports, to support design control activities and regulatory filings
- Update the status of the project periodically
- Contribute to the intellectual property of the company by providing invention disclosures, brainstorming sessions, and prototypes that demonstrate reduction to practice
- Engage physicians in product development, testing, and demonstrations
- Training other team members in product assembly; troubleshooting assembly issues
REQUIRED SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:
- Design and development of catheter-based medical devices
- Experience with catheter design, materials, and processing
- Proficient in CAD design and documentation software; SolidWorks and 3D printing are both preferred
- Design and manufacture of test and process fixtures and equipment
- Machine shop basics
- Having experience with Nitinol processing, injection molding, handle and packaging design is a plus
- Demonstrated ability to work with suppliers, including knowledge of capabilities, materials, and fabrication processes
- Having knowledge of medical device regulations
- Work experience in a lab and CER
- Excellent communication skills; ability to work independently and in a team environment
REQUIRED EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE:
- BS degree in Mechanical, Biomedical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering
- 2+ years’ work experience, in the medical device industry preferred
