PIH will engage with external partners and contractors to accomplish this work. The Biomedical Engineer is responsible for supporting and, as necessary, training Biomedical Engineers and will be a key member of the in-country technical team responsible for improving oxygen production landscapes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Facility Improvements
- Provide technical support and supervision for PSA plant infrastructure improvements
- Assist sites with oxygen equipment for the duration of the project.
Maintenance and Operation of PSA Plants
- Develop a list of spare parts PSA plants can buy and work with the supply chain team to purchase PSA spare parts.
- Mentor and train PSA plant operators and technicians on PSA maintenance, oxygen safety, and oxygen cylinder storage at PSA plant sites
Maintenance of Oxygen Concentrators
- Establishment and operationalization of a repair shop for oxygen concentrators
- Provide training on the maintenance and repair of oxygen concentrators, involving external partners where necessary
- Conduct bedside oxygen concentrator repairs, preventative maintenance, and calibration
- Prepare a list of spare parts for oxygen concentrators (based on information gathered in the previous assessment), both for preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance
Minimum Requirements:
Required:
- Degree or diploma in biomedical engineering or related relevant engineering field (mechanical, electrical, electronics, computer) or trade (mechanic, plumbing/medical gas, electrician, electro-mechanical)
- 1-2 years hands on experience with troubleshooting and repair of medical devices, including portable oxygen concentrators
- Service-oriented mindset and strong communication skills
- Ability to work well with a diverse team, honoring the concerns and priorities of staff at field sites.
Preferred:
- Experience developing and/or implementing training or educational programs
- Hands on experience with PSA oxygen plants, rotary screw air compressors, oxygen cylinders, and oxygen pipeline systems.
- Experience working in developing countries
