Job Description:
Naval Medical Research Unit - Dayton (NAMRU-D) and its collaborating institutions are looking for a Biomedical Engineer to help understand the human cognitive and physiological factors associated with military operations in aviation, underwater, and special warfare.
An Environmental Health Effects Laboratory (EHEL) Biomedical Engineer will support research projects at NAMRU-Ds. EEHEL assesses potential health effects associated with exposure to various environmental stressors our military encounters, including physical stressors, chemical and material hazards EHEL assesses exposure from multiple perspectives. to generate appropriate data that can be used to develop health protective exposure standards for our military and civilian populations. The Biomedical Engineer will work as the lead engineer in the Inhalation Lab, which creates, modifies, and updates inhalation equipment and systems for EHEL research projects. Systems are CA Inhalation Lab systems can simultaneously test chemical exposures with environmental stressors.
Duties, Skills and Abilities:
- Design, develop, and test biomedical devices and technologies to support research
- Conduct research protocols to support research objectives, including physiological monitoring and psychophysical testing
- Collaboration with principal investigators (PIs) to analyze data towards project objectives and incorporate these analyses into reports and presentations
- Prepare technical reports
- Interact with outside customers and researchers; provide sponsors with technical details of project results
- Testing, evaluating, troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and calibrating biomedical equipment
- Document all work in laboratory notebooks, technical reports, posters, and documentation folders
- Prepare engineering calculations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, surveys, and designs
- Interactions with other engineering and research disciplines as well as other departments
- Provide technical guidance to CAD Designers, Drafters, and lower-level engineers
- Advisory services may be provided to senior management on engineering-related matters
Required Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (or related field) and 8+ years of related work experience or Master’s degree in Engineering (or related field) and 4+ years of related work experience
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
Preferred Experience:
- Master’s degree in Engineering
- Environmental research experience
- Inhalation lab experience
- Must be able to obtain, maintain and/or currently possess a security clearance.
