Description:

We at Facebook Reality Labs (FRL) explore, innovate, and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. Mechanical Engineers with experience in wearable system design and hands-on prototyping are needed to work with a team of researchers to develop, integrate, and characterize prototype wearable bioinstrumentation systems. The selected candidate will work with a highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers and will have access to cutting-edge technology, resources, and testing facilities.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, fabrication, assembly, and integration of mechanical components and systems into wearable systems and test environments, including CAD design.
  • Establish plans for testing and validating hardware subsystems, build test fixtures, and conduct experiments as required
  • Assisting neuroscientists, optical scientists, comfort researchers, and machine learning researchers with designing, setting up, and conducting human studies related to sensor systems
  • Collaboration with researchers to understand their goals and elicit requirements for system architecture
Minimum Qualifications:
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Experience working on mechanical designs and prototyping in a collaborative, cross-functional environment for 3+ years
  • Experience in (CAD/solid modeling in NX or SolidWorks) with experience designing for human factors
  • Experience with a variety of manufacturing and prototyping techniques (machining, 3D printing, elastomer molding, textiles, etc.)
  • Testing and integration of hardware
  • Collaboration across groups and cultures: an interpersonal experience
  • At the time of hire, obtain work authorization in the country of employment, and maintain work authorization during employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • More than five years of product design/prototyping and R&D experience, including ownership of subsystems
  • Wearable's, soft goods, flexible systems, elastomers, or textiles experience
  • Test engineering experience, including instrumentation, data acquisition, analysis, statistics, and experimental design
  • Experience with electronics packaging, PCBA mechanical design, electro-mechanical integration & interconnection
