About the Company:

We can change healthcare worldwide if we work together. Medtronic pushes the limits of what technology, therapies, and services can do to alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life. To make tomorrow better than yesterday, we challenge ourselves and each other. This is what makes this place exciting and rewarding. We want to accelerate and advance our ability to create meaningful innovations, but we will only succeed with the right team members. Let's work together to address universal healthcare needs and improve the lives of patients. We need your help to shape the future.
Careers that Change Lives:
You’ll always have new challenges pursuing ideas that are exciting, innovative, and just plain cool. Build out the future of electrosurgery and robotic healthcare. Think critically about healthcare problems and/or opportunities to advance science faster than others. Do research on improving the healthcare of millions.
A Day in the Life:
A Mechanical Design-Analysis Engineer contributes to the design of medical devices by estimating system variability, optimizing designs, and quantifying design risks by using mathematical performance prediction models and related tolerance analysis methods. Statistical methods will be used to model mechanical systems to predict actual critical device dimensions and variations. Mechanical Design-Analysis Engineers must understand device construction, principles of operation, and customer requirements (and formulate a modeling approach to address those requirements), along with independently carrying out modeling activities and communicating results concisely over the telephone, in writing, and in person. The Surgical Innovations Operating Unit of Medtronic strives to enable earlier diagnosis, better treatment, faster complication-free recovery, and enhanced patient outcomes through Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS). Your team will develop innovative surgical products and services addressing diseases and conditions affecting the gastrointestinal tract, lung, abdominal wall, pelvic region, head and neck, and obesity.
Responsibilities:
- Create mathematical models to simulate loop behavior, research and input feature characteristic data, analyze results, identify potential issues, analyze and recommend improvements.
- Tolerance analysis can be used to assist in the design and evaluation of surgical devices
- Optimize complex tolerance schemes, including GD&T and process-capable tolerances
- Tolerance analysis subject matter expert for multiple cross-functional product development teams
- Maintain analysis files, obtain peer reviews, and document the results in Agile PLM
- Review models in PTC Creo and create cross-sections and drawings
- Conduct timely troubleshooting using peers, technical support, and past experience
- Update internal customers and management on a regular basis
- Communicate technical assessments and analysis results through reports and presentations
- Contribute technical expertise to submissions to government agencies and regulatory bodies
- Train staff in the use of design-analysis tools and methods
- Contribute to medical and scientific advances through inventions, new designs, and techniques
- Must Have: Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree required with 0+ years of experience.
Nice to Have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical
- Understanding and working with complex mechanisms
- Communication skills, both verbal and written
- Manage a large amount of data and calculations efficiently
- Working knowledge of probability, trigonometry, and statistical inference
- Reading and interpreting drawings, technical documents, and schematics
- Demonstrated the ability to solve problems and think critically
- Time management and organizational skills are essential
- The ability to learn and apply new knowledge quickly
- Expertise in CAD (preferably PTC Creo) and MS Excel
- Work ecosystem (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint)
- Experience with typical fabrication processes for medical devices
- Six Sigma practices, statistical methods, process capability, and tolerability experience
- Experience with fabrication processes such as molding, stamping, and casting
- Additional design-analysis tools such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA), coding, and Mold Flow
Analysis knowledge:
- Experience with medical devices and biomedical engineering
