- Manage critical technical tasks involved in the product development of catheters and provide technical leadership.
- Develop a deep understanding of the disease state, gather user needs, and communicate across the team.
- Convert needs requirements into technical specifications.
- Develop creative product solutions to unmet needs to foster a culture of creativity.
- Provide leadership to the team in developing test models, building prototypes, analyzing and interpreting test data, drawing and specifying device components and final assemblies, determining product materials, and developing processes for prototype performance evaluation.
- Identify and recommend the best commercialization solution(s).
- Prioritize team tasks, determine project strategy, and identify critical project tasks.
- Establish detailed technical project goals and plans.
- Throughout the product life cycle, identify and manage key technical risks.
- Manage the R&D team to meet performance, time, and cost goals.
- Support the development of new catheter development processes.
- Utilize external resources and liaise with them to accomplish project goals.
- Report on progress across the organization.
- Maintain the design history file and lead design reviews in accordance with the quality system.
- Write and/or review procedures, protocols, specifications, and reports.
- Interact with physicians, evaluate and assess user techniques, and create product training materials.
- Create marketing materials (presentations, videos, demos).
- Support the generation of Intellectual Property by filing new ideas and drafting patents as needed. Encourage and support idea generation and idea filing across the engineering groups on site.
- A strong technical leader, responsible for leading and managing the development of differentiated catheter devices.
- An understanding of engineering principles at the fundamental level is essential to developing a strong catheter design, development, and technical ability. Work ethic and problem-solving skills are strong.
- It is essential to have excellent writing, presentation, and verbal communication skills.
- Honours degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering or equivalent.
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience in the medical device industry with experience of technical project leadership, and prior catheter product development experience as a Senior R&D Engineer is required.
