- Biomedical equipment technicians use advanced technical knowledge to solve problems with biomedical and scientific equipment.
- Visually inspects biomedical equipment and medical instruments for damage.
- Identification of medical items received or downloaded so that they can be properly managed and/or transferred for maintenance, repairs, and calibration.
- Identifies medical equipment, medical kit components, and medical instruments for assembling medical repair kits, medical kits, surgical trays, and medical assemblages and outfitted shelters.
- Inspection, testing, and repair of biomedical and scientific equipment.
- The Biomedical Equipment Technician should be on site during normal working hours.
- Knows medical terminology and physiology.
- Possess basic knowledge of microprocessors and PCs, as well as experience with software-controlled data acquisition and processing.
- Communication skills, both verbally and in writing, are excellent
- Working effectively in a team environment
- The ability to speak, read, and understand English
- Familiarity with the biomedical maintenance field, its concepts, practices, and procedures
- Certification and training in testing, repairing, and inspecting life-saving support equipment (i.e. equipment that sustains and preserves life, such as defibrillators, ventilators, anesthesia units, etc).
- Be able to pass a NACI background investigation and obtain a CACard.
- Experience in clinical equipment maintenance and preventive maintenance, including servicing diagnostic imaging equipment and using oscilloscopes, simulators, and defibrillator analyzers.
- A.S. degree in biomedical technology, electronics technology, or military equivalent such as Navy NEC 8410.
- Background checks will be conducted.
- International Certification Commission (ICC) for Clinical Engineering and Biomedical Technology Certification (CBET) is recommended.
