- Identify and develop new business opportunities, develop novel clinical applications and procedures, and develop disruptive technologies
- This position will not have direct reports, but will be expected to mentor and lead team members
- Conceptualize, design, prototype, test, and analyze concepts to demonstrate technical feasibility. Share with team and leadership the benefits and strategies of key technology-related issues and solutions
- Identify opportunities and co-invent technologies through relationships with key opinion leaders in the cardiology/electrophysiology and cardiothoracic surgery fields. Participate in the planning, collection, and analysis of Voice of the Customer
- From observation of procedures in the cath lab and cardiac operating room, identify unmet needs related to procedural challenges and scientific boundaries for functional performance.
- Organize brainstorming sessions to develop design concepts
- Independently plan and conduct experimental work (in vitro and in vivo) to evaluate devices in vitro and in vivo
- Prepare presentations and reports to support R&D activities. Using PowerPoint, create clear, informative presentations. Research opportunities, technology concepts, test data, and recommendations to management
- Keep an organized laboratory notebook and document findings in well-written reports. Submit new innovations regularly to the Patent Review Board.
- Through literature, seminars, conferences, academia, and industry, stay up to date on the latest technologies
- Understand and adhere to the requirements of the regulatory framework, national and international standards
- Regular and predictable work performance

- Bachelor’s degree required + 15 years of experience or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, training and experience in biomedical or mechanical engineering
- Ability to manage project activity, mentor others, and lead company technical initiatives
- Demonstrated initiative in solving complex technical problems
- Successful product development experience working in cross-functional teams
- Understanding and discussing multidisciplinary technologies, i.e. mechanical, electrical, surgical, anatomical, and software
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Track record of generating and documenting intellectual property
- SolidWorks (or equivalent) proficiency
- Ability to travel 25%
- Master’s degree + 10 years of experience or PhD + 5 years
- Design, development, and commercialization of new medical devices under a medical design control process
- Experience in project management demonstrating thorough planning and thorough communication; experience with MS Project as a planning tool is preferred
- Machine tool operation, rapid prototyping methods, and hands-on assembly of prototypes
- Working knowledge of cardiac anatomy and electrophysiology
- Experience developing RF ablation technology and/or catheters
- Development of technologies using radiation, cryothermy, ultrasound, microwaves, or radiofrequency
- Knowledge of FEA, Multiphysics analysis, Lab View, Matlab, MINITAB, or other data acquisition and analysis techniques
- Multitasking and managing multiple projects
- Sketching skills to communicate design concepts
- Ability to regularly walk, sit, or stand as needed
- Ability to occasionally bend and push/pull as needed
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
