The description is:
Under direct supervision and guidance, this co-op will provide exposure to the medical device field and hands-on experience working within the Research and Development group as an engineer. As a co-op in R&D, you will work with cross-functional teams, alongside experienced engineers, to help design solutions and advance new product development projects. Modern equipment will be available to you, as well as on-site training courses. The person in this position would be responsible for building tests Compiling, analyzing, and reporting operational test and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified products, processes, or materials. You will be assigned to specific product or support teams.
Among the responsibilities are:
- Completes simple or basic project/product development tasks, including any or all of the following:
- Designing and evaluating prototypes, developing and writing test methods, creating and documenting new product concepts, documenting all test results and assembly processes.
- Attends and participates in product development meetings, which may include representatives from Marketing, Regulatory, Manufacturing, and Quality.
- Develop new concepts, designs, and approaches for new products, processes, and tests.
- Design, procure, and fabricate simple tooling and fixtures.
- Coordinates and designs engineering tests and experiments.
- Participate in the organization's innovation challenges.
- Communicates technical results/findings to a wide audience with diverse technical expertise.
- Performs basic engineering documentation tasks.
- Determines areas for improvement, suggests solutions, and submits idea records.
- Assigned special projects.
The following requirements must be met:
The candidate must be enrolled in an accredited college or university and in good academic standing, as well as be pursuing a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Polymer Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or similar field. Students in their sophomore year or above will be considered. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required (or a 4.0 if enrolled in a program with a 5.0 scale). The student must be available during the session indicated and must have a history of leadership and/or participation in campus programs and/or community service activities. Applicants should be driven and have an interest in medical device development.
