Job Description Summary

With BD, customers get complete solutions from discovery through diagnosis. In this position, you will be working with a talented molecular diagnostics team dedicated to developing automated assays using nucleic acid isolation and real-time quantitative amplification technologies to detect a wide range of infectious diseases. It will be the responsibility of this person to assist in the design, development, integration, and qualification of automated diagnostic workflows and assays. Successful candidates may also be required to provide support with the execution of clinical studies to validate the performance of the assays and assemble relevant information to support regulatory submissions.

Job Description
  • Utilizes a broad range of practical techniques in molecular biology in experiments, validations or qualification (i.e. use of pipettes, aseptic technique, gel electrophoresis, primer/probe design, serial dilutions, buffer formulation, organism growth, nucleic acid purification, amplification and detection and working with automated diagnostic instrumentation)
  • Sets up and carries out experiments using basic scientific math principles (i.e. dilutions, conversions, and statistics).
  • Effortlessly collects, records, reports, and presents results to peers and supervisors/managers.
  • A certified independent researcher with extensive experience designing experiments, analyzing data, and interpreting results.
  • Develops/adapts procedures to meet specific objectives and solve problems under supervision.
  • Utilizes published molecular diagnostics research and understands it.
  • Supports other facets of the Research and Development function and provides technical input to other scientists.
  • Develops protocols for validation studies, conducts them, and analyzes and interprets the results.
Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor degree required, preferably in Life Sciences, Bio/Biomedical Engineering, or related.
  • Minimum 2+ years relevant academic or industry wet-lab work experience required.
  • Proficiency in a variety of molecular biology techniques, including nucleic acid extraction and amplification.
  • Technical writing skills that are practiced and capable.
  • Presentation skills of a high standard.
Additional Qualifications and Skills:

An understanding of microbiology, virology or clinical laboratory science coupled with experience processing clinical specimens for nucleic acid recovery would be advantageous.
