Major Responsibilities:
Business development:
- You will be expected to contribute to winning new work in the area of resilient infrastructure by working with the leadership and others in the group. The following will be included:
- Establishing relationships with clients and creating business opportunities by researching and managing them
- Identifying tender opportunities that Arup is likely to benefit from by monitoring announcements
- The preparation of expressions of interest, or complete proposals, describing key services and approaches that Arup may be able to provide. Contribute to proposals by compiling inputs from other Arup groups and external consultants
- Creating and shaping new service offerings in the International Development field using Arup's multi-disciplinary approach
- Creating and mobilizing your own network of clients and partners to gain work
- Supporting marketing and business development through external engagement
- You will provide technical direction and input to small and medium-sized projects as a project manager, or as a task leader, contributing to the delivery of high-quality outputs:
- Contribute to project solutions in areas of technical expertise, such as designing or developing strategies.
- Applying technical skills to ensure technical rigor is achieved, and preparing project documents to advise on this.
- Reports, presentations, or other project outputs (both internal and external) are written in a high quality.
- Managing and coordinating desk-based and primary research for specific project needs.
- Facilitating workshops and project meetings to advance projects.
- Coordinating inputs between Arup's multidisciplinary team and partners from external sources.
- Keeping clients informed and making sure expectations are clearly communicated.
In small and medium-sized projects, you will play a leading role:
- Organize project work, assign tasks and responsibilities to team members and external partners, according to skills and budget.
- Ensuring that projects are successful commercially and following the budget.
- Taking responsibility for the quality and commercial health of the work being done on the project and to ensure legal compliance.
- Achieve the long-term success of Arup by adhering to its management, quality assurance and safety systems.
- Learning from past experience for future improvement.
It is your responsibility to make sure your team members perform well and develop. The following will be included:

- Documenting and discussing progress and challenges, and planning improvements based on performance reviews.
- Making sure that employees are able to follow personal development plans, so as to make the most of the opportunities for development.
It will be possible for you to:
- Develop your own skills and build a professional network by participating in both internal and external networks
- Conduct research on Arup's project practices and from knowledge networks, and disseminate these. This may include representing Arup at external meetings.
- Mentoring junior members of the team and raising awareness of Arup's international development practice.
- Civil engineering (or equivalent) Master's degree or equivalent
- Engineer (CEng) who is a member of a professional institution such as the Institution of Civil Engineers (or equivalent).
- Civil engineers possess a broad range of technical expertise and knowledge, including knowledge of water and sanitation, flood risk, drainage, nature-based solutions, road construction, power provision, pavement design, civil structures, and earthwork.
- Working experiences in the infrastructure advisory space, including climate resilient infrastructure. An ideal candidate would be familiar with early project definition and structuring methodologies as well as infrastructure finance and procurement methods.
- Worked with domestic and international partners including government agencies, NGOs, and UN Agencies.
- Manages a complex and varied workload, often involving multiple concurrent projects. Prioritizing tasks, working under pressure, and meeting strict deadlines are essential.
- A clear understanding of what customers need (internal and external) and how that affects the effectiveness of a commercial organization
- Demonstrate project management skills, including the ability to develop work plans, and organize a team according to the plans, preferably in low-data and low-capacity contexts.
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to translate complex concepts into simple ideas, especially in cross-cultural environments
- Capability of working in multidisciplinary teams with diverse backgrounds and team members with strong team skills, creativity, and collaboration
- Developing persuasive arguments for reports and proposals requires excellent writing skills.
- Ability to do both primary and secondary research.
- Strategist with extensive experience developing creative and appropriate solutions across a variety of contexts.
- Ability to develop and deliver training and capacity-building approaches that promote learning among clients and partners
- The ability to speak and write English fluently is a plus.
- An advantage would be a working knowledge of digital drawing and design software (AutoCAD, Civils 3D), design software (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, PowerPoint), knowledge of BIM and GIS, as well as experience using hydraulic design software.
