- From concept to production, design and create ground-breaking optical sensor solutions.
- Create, test, and maintain unique characterization tools for optical system design and performance validation.
- Simulation/analysis of products and systems utilizing a variety of software tools to aid engineering development, validation, and characterization (e.g., Light Tools, Zemax, Lumerical, Matlab, JMP etc.).
- Lead hypothesis-driven failure analysis for a cross-functional team of mechanical engineers, optical designers, and manufacturing specialists to provide design input.
- Aid root cause investigation using opto-electrical simulation utilizing in-house tools or commercial products like Light Tools, Spice, COMSOL, and others.
- Use design of experiments and build data analysis to drive and validate corrective actions with cross-functional teams and suppliers to improve product design/manufacturability.
- Write technical communications for executive and cross-functional briefings on a regular basis.
- Overseas travel to support product development and supplier teams as necessary, when consistent with government guidance on business travel.
- Understanding of optics, broad physics principles, and basic EE ideas across multiple disciplines.
- Strong opto-electrical lab measurement, characterization, and failure mode analysis experience to inform important design feedbacks and decisions.
- Expertise in designing unique setups from the ground up using advanced optical and electrical metrology equipment such as oscilloscopes, function generators, spectrometers, free-space optics, cameras detectors (and accompanying analogue signal conditioning/amplification), and so on. Experience with alignment is advantageous.
- Modeling, automation, data gathering, and data analysis skills in Matlab, Python, or C.
- Strong teamwork and leadership skills, as well as excellent written and vocal communication skills
- It's an advantage if you have experience with ray-tracing software (Light Tools, Zemax, etc.) and bespoke fixture mechanical design (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.).
- Industry experience in the design, validation, and volume manufacturing support of tiny optical systems is preferred.
- M.S/Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Optics or Physics; or B.S. with 5+ years relevant work experience
