Job Description:

Component Design Engineers are responsible for the mechanical design of Gas Turbine Engine components. As well as creating design definitions that meet system requirements and product attributes, the Design Engineer is also responsible for developing product specifications. The Design Engineer will exhibit strong technical knowledge of mechanical design methodologies as well as cross-discipline engineering concepts, including, but not limited to, manufacturing engineering, cost engineering, and product definition. To support the design needs of the business, the Design Engineer will use the latest design tools, methods, and techniques. Our DNA is innovation at Rolls-Royce. Key Accountabilities:
  • Provide design solutions for gas turbine components and complex assemblies, keeping in mind safety, manufacturing capabilities, and physical and functional robustness. The solutions will address requirements such as Unit Cost, Lifecycle Cost, Weight, Maintainability, and Repair.
  • Among the engineering activities performed are mechanical design, analysis, calculations by hand, tolerance stacks, presenting technical data, authoring technical reports, creating and reviewing functional and physical interfaces, and generating analysis requirements for components.
  • Creating detailed component definitions (drawings &/or models) and assisting manufacturing with production of conforming hardware.
  • Take part in Root Cause and Corrective Action Teams
  • Complete risk assessments for owned components and provide input for sub-system and system-level risks.

Basic Requirements:
  • Bachelors in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or Computer Engineering or Masters Degree.
  • Familiarity with gas turbine component and sub-system design, including materials, structural analysis, dynamics, and aero thermal methods
  • Familiarity with computer aided design tools such as Siemens NX
  • Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Good interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team environment; willingness to accept responsibility and take initiative; and drive to finish assigned tasks on schedule
Preferred:
  • Extensive experience in the design of gas turbine components, such as compressors, combustors, turbines, transmissions, and/or externals
  • Experience with manufacturing processes
  • Experience with finite element analysis tools (such as ANSYS)
  • Skills in Visual Basic, Python, PERL, C++ and/or computational tools such as Matlab
  • An excellent command of the English language for both written and oral communications
