Job overview
The Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro, invites applications for a position of Medical Laboratory Assistant in the Clinical Chemistry department. The opening of a new Blood Sciences laboratory covering hematology, blood transfusion, and clinical chemistry is exciting. As part of a laboratory team, this position provides laboratory, clerical and data entry support and reception coverage. Samples are collected from within the hospital and surrounding GP practices. Obtaining samples, entering requests for analysis, and presenting the results as needed. Together with Biomedical Scientists, support the specific and technical and clerical duties to facilitate the smooth running of the service.
Main duties of the job
- The receipt of samples from within the hospital and surrounding GP practices.
- Preparation of samples, data entry, and presentation for analysis as needed.
- As part of a team, support the specific and technical and clerical tasks of the Biomedical Scientists to ensure the smooth functioning of the service.
- This is a full time post working 37.5 hours per week. A flexible attitude to working hours is essential. The hours are currently within a framework of 08.00–20.00 including weekend & Bank Holiday working. These arrangements are subject to continuing review.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Previous laboratory experience and use of Laboratory management information system (LIMS) is essential. You must have 4 CSE/GCSE's or equivalent in maths, science and English.
Qualifications:

- Recent educational achievements relating to laboratory services.
Experience:

- Laboratory, keyboard, clerical
- Previous computerized data entry experience
Desirable criteria
- Experience of LIMS (Win Path) data entry
- Experience of using analyzers
Skills:
Essential criteria
- Precision, method, and dexterity are required
- Must have the ability to work with human fluid and tissue
- Adept at using automation
- Knowledge of Health and Safety in the laboratory, including waste disposal.
