Mechanical R&D Engineer - Health Technologies
Job Location: Santa Clara Valley (Cupertino), California, United States
Key Qualifications
- Mechatronics, biomedical engineering, physics, or equivalent experience in industry or academia
- Sensing physiological signals, designing experiments, as well as collecting and analyzing data related to health and wellness
- Measurement of biomedical/physiological signals by non-invasive sensors
- Completion of the full engineering life cycle of an engineering project from problem definition through failure analysis and product refinement
- Experience with designing, manufacturing, troubleshooting and debugging prototype hardware
- Comfortable writing scripts in Python, MATLAB, etc for data analysis and visualization
- Intellectually versatile - we only work on new technology and features, this means we are constantly learning about new sensors, techniques, and physiology
- Three key areas were contributed to Apple's health efforts by Health Technologies Mechanical Engineering. These responsibilities are covered as a team.

- Four years of professional experience plus a bachelor's degree
- Two years of professional experience plus a master's degree

Additional Requirements
Physiological Research:- Using core mechanical engineering fields to provide a perspective on physiological signals
- Understand the origins of relevant phenomena and research health features
- Evaluate the feasibility of potential health sensing strategies based on previous studies
- Hardware Prototype Development, Test, and Validation:
- Represent mechanical engineering field for interdisciplinary efforts to build prototype systems used to acquire health signals
- Design mechanical sensing architectures
- Develop sensor prototypes, specifications, and processes
- Build hardware test strategies and testers
- Validate and calibrate precision sensing hardware using laboratory experiments
- Procure and coordinate lab equipment
- Contribute to New Product Introduction (NPI) process
- Communicate concepts, proposals, and results to interdisciplinary teams and executives
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to design and execute user studies
- Advocate for correct scientific methods and statistical techniques
- Deploy and maintain reference (ground truth) sensors and prototype hardware into longitudinal user studies
- Design user-interaction with prototypes to create well-controlled experiments that will have high data yield
- Interpret study data and results
