Your adventure
As a Software Development Engineer, you will be a key team member to drive the development of the end-to-end services and processes to give Amazon hourly associates across the globe options for pay, training, and job choices. You will help build the most extensive pay premium, job training, and career mobility options on earth. You will own automation of business processes in a full stack, mostly serverless environment using proven, as well as evolving native AWS services and other technologies to create a friction free user experience. You will solve the challenging problem of scaling these services to serve hundreds of thousands of Amazonians across the globe in real-time.

Key job responsibilities
The SDE designs, develops, and tests Amazon scale enterprise business systems serving hundreds of thousands associates worldwide. The SDE continuously learn new technologies, the latest industry techniques, and gets to use the newest AWS tools. The SDE gets to develop new systems, support robust business tools, and integrate with other internal systems within Amazon's world class operations.
A day in the life
The SDE works with peer SDE teammates to design, develop, test, and continuously enhance Amazon scale enterprise business systems for use by our hundreds of thousands associates worldwide. Very few other companies in the world have systems like ours to serve that many employees. In order to develop world class enterprise business systems, the SDE will work with Product Managers who specialize in Amazon's Worldwide Operations, User Experience experts who design engaging and easy to use business processes, and research scientists who develop sophisticated science models to mimic human decisions for automation.
About the team
You will work with a team of SDE's with a wide breadth of experience, spanning full stack development, mobile interfaces, big data scale data processing, and high throughput architecture. Together, we develop full stack ecosystems to give our hundreds of thousands of associates flexibility with their Amazon jobs. The team's mission directly contributes to Amazon's leadership principle: "Strive to be the World's Best Employer".
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
· 1+ years of experience contributing to the system design or architecture (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.
· 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
· Programming experience with at least one software programming language.
· Excellent problem solving skills.
· Possess an extremely sound understanding of areas in the basic areas of Computer Science such as Algorithms, Data Structures, Object Oriented Design, Databases.
· Be able to write Amazon quality code in an object oriented language - preferably in Java/C++ in a Linux environment.
· Candidate must have good written and oral communication skills, be a fast learner and have the ability to adapt quickly to a fast-paced development environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related field.
· Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers.
· Hands-on expertise in many disparate technologies, ranging from front-end user interfaces to back-end systems and all points in between.
· Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
· Ability to take a project from scoping requirements through actual launch of the project.
The pay range for this position in Colorado is $143K - $194k/yr however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign-on bonus and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
