Your profile
Your principal role will be to provide technical support to product development projects on a number of varied tasks. This role covers conceptual and detail design, prototyping, analysis, qualification, and production support including the generation of associated documentation for all product ranges.
Key skills for the role include:
- A strong mechanical engineering background in precision engineering.
- Expertise in the full lifecycle of product development.
- Communication and interpersonal skills are excellent.
- Strong work ethic, ability to work on own initiative, and proactive attitude.
- Team player who is professional and self-motivated.
- Interested in challenging assumptions and generating creative and innovative ideas.
- Working with Agile methodologies.
- Expertise in additive manufacturing.
- Manufacturing processes including turning, milling, machining, etc.
- Good knowledge of materials to assist with material selection based on the functional and performance requirements of the component and product.
- Working knowledge of standard software packages such as Autodesk Inventor, Microsoft Office, and Teamcenter.
- A knowledge of design to cost, manufacture, and assembly.
- Knowledge of both AC and DC electrical principles (preferred).
- Experience designing fibre optic products (preferred).
Your responsibilities:
- Generating ideas, creating concepts, and producing detail designs that comply with company, project, or client specifications.
- Defining and compiling procedures for qualification testing, production assembly, FAT testing, site installation, and the associated technical data sheets and reports.
- Create 3D models of components/assemblies using CAD (Autodesk Inventor).
- Calculations and documentation are required to support the design solutions.
- Check and approve drawings, design documentation, and calculations generated by department members.
- Ensure that all tasks are performed in accordance with the departmental processes for scope control, quality, and health & safety.
- Support the continuous development of our department by helping identify:
- Process errors and fixes.
- Process improvement opportunities.
- Equipment improvement suggestions.
- Relevant training opportunities/suggestions.
- Review the project requirements and identify product solutions and technical guidance to facilitate preparation. Assist in client bid review meetings.
- Support customer or supplier meetings with technical support.
- As required, provide engineering support during qualification and production activities.
- Mentor and assist trainees and design engineers in developing their skills.
- A mechanical or electro-mechanical design background in precision products with a minimum of a degree qualification in engineering and +2 years’ experience (HND will be considered as an alternative with the right level of experience).
