About the Company:
Recognizing the need to leverage the high costs associated with providing health care services throughout the District, Palomar Health has focused on building a coordinated system of care that focuses expertise, volume, and technology at specific sites where high competency can be maintained. Due to this, we currently have a North County delivery system anchored by two medical center campuses that offer a wide range of acute care services, obstetrics, rehabilitation, behavioral health, pediatrics, and neonatal intensive care. Pomerado Hospital opened in June 1977 as the District's second hospital. It now has 107 beds. Villa Pomerado, a skilled nursing facility, opened on the Pomerado Hospital campus in 1987, and Palomar Memorial Hospital was renamed Palomar Medical Center.
Palomar Medical Center entered into a management agreement with Rady Children's Hospital in 2010.
Approximately 70% of the health care district voters supported Proposition BB, a bond measure that authorized financing for repairs of aging facilities and construction of new facilities, after more than 200 town hall meetings with community members. It opened as "The Hospital of the Future" in August 2012, with services including 24-hour emergency and trauma, surgery, cardiology and cardiac catheterization, vascular, orthopedics, neuroscience, interventional radiology, rehabilitation, and oncology surgery. Initially named Palomar Medical Center, it specialized in labor and delivery, pediatrics and neonatal intensive care, acute rehabilitation, and behavioral health. Aside from providing 86 inpatient beds, the hospital also offers many outpatient services, including outpatient surgery, radiation therapy, stereotactic radiosurgery, neurodiagnostic testing, a sleep center, an infusion center, cardiac rehabilitation and a standby emergency department. The Palomar Health Downtown Campus was closed in June 2015, after more than fifty years, and all services were consolidated at the Palomar Medical Center and Pomerado Hospital.
