Job Description:
The Data Engineer is responsible for the entire life cycle development, implementation, production support, and performance tuning of the Enterprise Data Warehouse, Data Mart. They are responsible for designing, implementing, and populating table structures with data from internal and external sources. Their data helps business teams improve key business metrics, customer experience, and results.
Work with the analytics teams to collect and analyze data for end-user requirements, assess the feasibility of these requirements from a technical perspective, develop and support data models, identify root causes of data quality issues. Assure that data pipelines are scalable, repeatable, and secure, and that they can serve multiple users within an organization; facilitate getting data from a variety of sources, ensuring it adheres to quality standards, and assuring that downstream users can access that data quickly.
Providing insight from raw data and handling data from diverse sources seamlessly; enabling batch/real-time analytical solutions that leverage emerging technologies. Develop prototypes and proof of concepts for the selected solutions and implement complex Data projects, focusing on collecting, parsing, managing, analyzing, and visualizing large data sets using multiple platforms; understand how to apply technologies to solve Data problems and develop innovative Data solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Utilizes transformational technologies to support data and batch/real-time analytics.
- Develops software applications, tests them, and builds automation tools as a member of a team.
- Works with the D&A team members to implement data solutions in alignment with the project schedule.
- Develops, tests, and documents new or modified data systems to create robust and scalable data analytics applications.
- Develops data flow diagrams for all business systems.
- Expands and grows the capabilities of the data platform to address new data challenges and problems.
- Implements security and recovery tools and techniques as needed.
- Automates processes.
- Design logical and physical databases.
- Designs key and indexing schemes and designs partitioning.
- Developing, testing, implementing, and maintaining database management applications.
- Develops and implements operational data stores and data marts.
- Establishes consistency between data models and ecosystem models, including entity names, relationship types, and definitions of entities (e.g., in support of consistency).
- Provides level 2 support for ongoing engagements
- Complies with data management standards, policies, and procedures.
- Clients may be contacted to discuss progress.
- Builds and tests business continuity and disaster recovery procedures according to requirements.
- Evaluates future technologies and new releases/upgrades and provides feedback.
Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, other technical discipline, or equivalent work experience.
- Typically requires 1-3 years of software development or database experience.
- Experience with agile or other rapid application development methods.
- Expertise in object-oriented design, programming, and testing patterns is recommended.
- Recommend having experience with object-oriented coding.
- Extensive experience with ETL and data wrangling tools.
- Experience with relational database internals, including both query processing and query planning, or other data processing infrastructure.
- Basic knowledge of key data structures and algorithms.
- Understanding of data modeling and the benefits and limitations of different data structures with respect to specific use cases.
- Monitoring, backup, and disaster recovery of data systems.
- Programming or scripting knowledge.
- Good verbal/written communication skills; must be able to convey complex concepts effectively across all levels of the organization

- An analytical capability for identifying reporting requirements and visualizing them

- Understanding of common data warehouse concepts, such as dimensional modeling. Ability to design database schemas that meet business requirements and support business intelligence applications.
- Expertise in relational databases. Knowledge of different types of indexes and partitioning methods. Identifying and resolving query performance issues.
- Writing complex SQL queries and stored procedures to answer complex business questions. A strong understanding of Microsoft SQL Server and SQL Server Reporting Services
- Knowledge of multi-dimensional databases (OLAP).
- It would be advantageous if you had experience tapping data from NoSQL
