- Utilizes experience, training, department and vendor resources in order to repair broken medical devices so that the device meets manufacturer specifications for performance and safety.
- Performs preventative maintenance, electrical safety testing, and functional testing of medical devices according to established departmental procedures.
- Uses the department's equipment management database to enter information on all work (both productive and nonproductive) completed. A minimum of 90% of time is to be achieved.
- Executes one hundred percent (100%) of all scheduled inspections within the first month of assignment.
- Orders the correct parts and service items for repairs and preventive maintenance. Reorders parts if the department maintains a stock level.
- Achieves team and department-related performance and safety goals.
- Attends manufacturers' technical training at the direction of the Supervisor and Senior Manager. Develops proficiency in the medical device(s) and becomes an expert in the department. Assists other staff members in receiving training.
- Assists with the training and orientation of new technical staff.
- Bachelor’s degree
- Academic work aligned with AAMI’s Core Competencies for the Biomedical Equipment Technician
- At least six (6) years’ experience working as a Biomedical Technician in a healthcare setting.
- Military training
- Basic knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry, English and professional skills plus increased levels of certification and training as needed.
- The ability to understand common clinical terminology as well as that of life sciences such as anatomy and physiology.
- Understanding of computers and network architecture.
- Excellent technical knowledge of a wide range of medical devices.
- Problem-solving skills are excellent.
- Experience using computers, software, and equipment management databases.
- Communication and interpersonal skills are excellent.
- Understanding of human physiology as it relates to the use of medical devices.
- Working in a team-based environment is a strong suit.
- Expert with a high level of skill set or knowledge; capable of training, mentoring higher level staff. Capable of performing in a lead capacity.
- Ability to communicate the use of supported devices with detailed understanding
- Provide advanced support for acuity equipment for direct patient care.
- Has a depth understanding of the operations and environment that they support such as hospital, clinic, etc.
- Extensive experience in their assigned clinical environment.
- Capable of learning on the job as well as teaching and mentoring others. The mentor has developed mastery to the point where they can mentor other mentors. A "Subject Matter Expert" on high-acuity clinical devices and systems in specialized acute care areas.
- Effectively communicates with stakeholders, colleagues, vendors, and the department management team. Communicates timely on the status of all assigned projects. Provide a weekly spreadsheet identifying new equipment received via email.d and utilize the preferred communication style in an effort to provide effective service support to all parties.
- Meets with clients, visits project sites, and conducts essential training as scheduled. Engages in discussions and identifies areas of concern that affect the project schedule, operational flow, logistics, and cost. Verifies accuracy of standards for patient equipment being purchased.
- Performs on-call duties as needed by the department.
- Comply with all enterprise and departmental information security policies, procedures, and standards.
- Integrate information security into the development, design, and implementation of Hospital Technology Resources that process, transmit, or store CHOP data.
- To support compliance activities related to state and federal regulatory requirements, healthcare accreditation standards, and all other applicable regulations that govern the use and disclosure of patient, financial, or other confidential information.
