Job Description:

Summary of the job

Assures the safe and reliable use of medical equipment used for patient monitoring, diagnosis, and therapy, including imaging. Diagnose and correct problems associated with instrument operation and malfunction, train users on appropriate and safe use of the equipment, perform scheduled calibration, maintenance, and safety testing, and plan and coordinate the installation of medical equipment.
Duties Specific to the Job

  • Documents the dates and performance characteristics of medical equipment through the use of stickers or other means.
  • Reports all medical equipment-related activity into the medical equipment/medical communication systems management database, per accreditation requirements.
  • Identifies and reports abnormal conditions of medical equipment use that may affect patient safety or equipment longevity.
  • As needed, instructs users in operating techniques, safety procedures, and the use of medical equipment.
  • Ensure that all repaired medical equipment works safely and in accordance with manufacturer specifications and/or appropriate accreditation agencies.
  • Calculates when it is best to use vendor repair services to minimize downtime for medical equipment.
  • Tests, calibrates, and maintains equipment on a regular basis.
  • Through coordination with vendors, manufacturers, and users, plans and ensures the orderly, safe, and satisfactory installation of medical equipment.
  • Provides immediate response to user requests to analyze and correct reported medical equipment failures.
  • Creates systems to enhance the use of medical devices in hospital settings.
  • Establishes methods in research biomedical engineering equipment in conjunction with physicians.
  • Monitors biomedical equipment for compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Execute and complete projects on time by analyzing scope and determining specifications.
Requirements

 


Job Requirements Minimum

  • Graduate of a biomedical engineering program with an associate's degree (or) advanced military training
  • Depending on the job assignment, a Florida driver's license may be required
  • Experience in a hospital-based biomedical engineering program or multi-hospital shared services program (OR) 3-4 years' experience in a hospital-based biomedical engineering program and a Certified Biomedical Equipment Tech (CBET) designation
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • A bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering or electronic engineering plus ten years of experience in a hospital-based biomedical engineering program or multi-hospital shared service program is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing effectively.
  • Following verbal, written, and diagrammatic instructions, solving complex problems, and filing reports.
  • I am available to be on call as needed.
  • Skills in medical device integration and ability to learn software application(s).
  • An understanding of the theory and design of clinical physiological monitoring networks.
  • Spanish knowledge is helpful.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and constructively with coworkers and customers.
