At Deliveroo, we have a world-class machine learning team whose mission is to help the company make better automated decisions at scale. We work on nearly every aspect of how the company runs, from how a customer discovers a great restaurant to when a rider arrives at your door, and everything in between. As machine-learning (ML) engineers and operations-research engineers, we work in cross-functional teams with data scientists, engineers, and product managers to build the algorithms that power our business. In our product teams, we are close to the business problems and have the freedom to tackle the most challenging ones. We design and implement a concrete pipeline that translates a fuzzy business problem into a concrete ML After that, we collaborate closely with the engineers to deploy our models and with the data scientists to test the algorithms' algorithms.
In addition, we strive for a positive impact for all our customers and will advocate for non-ML solutions when it makes more sense. Deliveroo solves problems others haven't thought of. By bringing together consumers, riders, and restaurants, we operate a three-sided marketplace. Prioritizing simplicity over unnecessary complexity, rigor over quick fixes, and incremental change based on experimentation are our priorities. Whenever possible, we will advocate for non-ML solutions for all our customers.
We use Snowflake and DBT for our data warehouse, Python for most everything pipeline related and analysis (with a few parts still in R), Tensor Flow for modelling, Kubernetes to orchestrate our workloads, and Jenkins to define our pipelines. Some of our most performance-critical algorithms are implemented in Rust.
Deliveroo's machine learning engineers report into our ML engineering management team. We have a strong, active machine learning and data science community, with guest lecturers; a robust technical review process; a career progression framework; and plenty of learning opportunities. Career paths are available for managers as well as individual contributors.
We have ML engineers with backgrounds in mathematics, statistics, physics, engineering, computer science, operations research, and cognitive neuroscience. Machine learning may be formally taught to some and not to others. Our team consists of members from all over the world. We also have a dedicated committee for data science diversity.
We are looking for machine learning engineering managers to join our management team. Ideal candidates will:
- Managing machine learning engineers and data scientists and guiding their career development
- I have built and deployed machine learning algorithms within product teams
- Assist with designing and implementing machine learning algorithms; provide technical guidance
- Experience managing stakeholders across the organization and building roadmaps with cross-functional teams
- Assemble a team of individuals with diverse backgrounds and skills
- Be comfortable working in an extremely fast, constantly changing environment, with incredibly high standards
- Most care about achieving impact, so they adopt a pragmatic, flexible approach
- Experience with experiments and knowledge
