About the Job
The Director of Software Engineering will lead multiple software engineering teams, including external vendors, focusing on Brightly’s Platform collaborating with other Platform engineering leaders. This strategic role involves driving the transformation of enterprise products, leading distributed engineering teams across global locations, and modernizing products while reducing technical debt. The Director will ensure high-quality, scalable, and reliable engineering projects, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement using AI capability ensuring optimization and faster time to market adhering to appropriate guardrails. This is a pivotal opportunity for a leader to bring their experience, business acumen, and development philosophies to the role.
What you will do
- Drive the transformation and modernization of our Platform microservices architecture
- Develop and implement engineering strategies that align to product and business, while setting goals and priorities, and ensure alignment with overall business objectives.
- Develop with product and maintain technology roadmaps for microservices.
- Recruit, mentor, and manage engineering teams, providing guidance, performance management, and professional development opportunities.
- Direct, review, and approve technical product designs, changes and enhancements
- Lead and drive engineering excellence culture across global functions
- Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering staff, ensuring they have the resources and support needed to succeed.
- Drive innovation within the engineering department, exploring new technologies and methodologies to improve products and services.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, such as product, design, marketing, and sales, to ensure alignment and successful project outcomes.
- Ensure high-quality, performance, and scalability of microservices
- Manage engineering budgets, allocate resources effectively, and optimize resource utilization.
- Develop and implement global engineering policies, standards, and procedures
- Stimulate hiring, retain and develop top engineering talent across the organization
- Provide guidance, career development, and mentorship to team members
- Lead the transition from regional development silos to unified global engineering teams
- Enhanced SDLC experience across the platform microservices architecture, identifying and championing opportunities to embed GenAI adoption in every stage for effort optimization and faster time to market towards building functionality with efficiency and innovation.
- Strategically guide the integration of ERP systems with our platform, ensuring robust data flows, business process alignment, and seamless connectivity to maximize operational value.
- Champion an API & Integration development methodology for all microservices, ensuring modularity, reusability, and external connectivity are foundational to our platform's evolution.
- Oversee the development and expansion of our B2B API Platform capabilities, enabling secure, scalable, and efficient data exchange with partners and customers, and fostering a thriving API ecosystem.
What you need
- 15years of experience in the software industry
- 6+ years leading & managing technical teams
- Proven experience building and managing development teams that design and deliver large distributed systems
- Experience in agile development and object-oriented systems with high availability requirements
- Experience leading and managing engineering teams, including hiring, performance management, and professional development.
- Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of cost dynamics for software and infrastructure
- Expertise in technologies (i.e. Java, .NET, RedHat, AWS, ETL tools, front-end technologies, Github Copolit, Jira)
- Experience leveraging AI code companions (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to optimize software development processes and improve team efficiency.
- Experience with technologies in operations management, EdTech, GovTech, Manufacturing, Healthcare and Data Analytics software a plus.
