Job Summary

Is looked to by senior hospital leadership for expert guidance on healthcare technology. Assists department Sr.Manager with all aspects of program management, including work history data analysis, staffing allocation, equipment acquisition planning, installation and testing, outside vendor management, development of policies and procedures, and provision of clinical engineering services. Ensures all program components support accreditation and other state and local codes related to electrical and mechanical equipment safety. Develops and monitor compliance with equipment preventive maintenance schedules. The Supervisor is responsible for coordinating technical services including inspections, corrective maintenance, projects and all other support activities for the assigned team. This position is accountable to ensure that there is a formal communication process for the team so that all members understand their roles, responsibilities, and expectations. The Supervisor is accountable to meet or exceed all established department and team benchmarks through effective daily monitoring and management of team operations. This leadership role provides guidance and oversight to all team members to ensure that team resources are utilized in the most effective and efficient way possible. The Supervisor partners with the all other Supervisors to provide cross-team support as needed for any technical support needs.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Plans, schedules, assigns, coordinates and monitors performance of service, preventive maintenance, and support activities by team members and vendors to ensure services are timely and effective.
  • Performs annual and continuing staff performance evaluations and sets goals for all team members. 
  • When appropriate, performs disciplinary actions and recommends team members for promotion.
  • Serves as an effective role model, mentor and educator to other team members. 
  • Fosters a positive team-based environment by engaging team members through daily huddles, monthly team meetings, and individual development discussions. 
  • Develops, documents, implements and monitors team processes that provides for effective and efficient support of customers.

  • Reviews team member work order documentation for accuracy and completeness. Provides feedback when improvement is needed.
  • Works with Senior Manager to determine team hours of operation and coverage. Is accountable to ensure that there is staff coverage in the event of team member vacations, illness, technical training, and meetings.
  • Increases knowledge and identifies and implements process improvements both personal and team-related that add value by improving quality, safety, savings, efficiency, and add value to the work environment.
  • Performs repairs and preventive maintenance as needed based on staffing needs.

The Biomedical Tech Supervisor work location will start at our Main Hospital location in University City, then will transition to our new Service and Logistics Center when it opens, planned for early 2023. The address for the Service and Logistics Center is 6400 Market St, Melbourne, PA 19082.

Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Associates degree
Required Experience: Seven (7) years’ experience working as a Biomedical Technician in a healthcare setting and two (2) years in a technical leadership role.

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Education: Bachelors of Science in Engineering or related field
Preferred Experience CBET

Additional Technical Requirements:
  • Excellent technical knowledge of a broad range of medical devices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent understanding and experience using computers, software and the use of equipment management databases.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good understanding of human physiology as it relates to the use of medical devices.
  • Works well in a team-based environment.
To carry out its mission, it is of critical importance for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) to keep our patients, families and workforce safe and healthy and to support the health of our global community.
