Role and Responsibilities:
Summary
To provide an Field Engineer to Thumrait AB, Oman in support of an on‑site Contractor Logistic Support (CLS) program for 1 year following training system acceptance. The CLS Field Engineer shall operate training devices and provide Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) Pilots with the skills necessary to independently operate a Pilot Training Simulator (PTS) and Egress Procedure Trainer (EPT) in support of RAFO Pilot training. Support the onsite Field Engineer II in a variety of maintenance duties in the electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, and optical areas in support of a F16 PTS and EPT located at Thumrait AFB, Oman.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- Train RAFO Instuctor Pilots on how to operate the Simulator’s Instructor Operator System (IOS) for use during the training of Student Pilots, to include initialization of the IOS, mission initial conditions, current conditions, approach/departure, aural cues, and mission initialization
- Train RAFO Instuctor Pilots, with practical hands‑on exercises, on how to power turn‑on/turn‑off, booting the system, utilizing the IOS, mission building, setup and loading, and malfunction insertion/emergency procedures
- Train RAFO Instructor Pilots on the proper process/techniques for communicating/reporting trainer system failures/malfunctions.
- Calibrate, install, maintain, repair, and test flight simulators, and other support equipment
- Support the installation of changes and updates to simulators and support equipment as required
- Perform required readiness checks on flight simulation equipment and instruments
- Conduct and document preventative maintenance checks required for simulator and support equipment
- Troubleshoot, repair, and document malfunctions of simulators and support equipment
- Remove and replace faulty equipment and complete maintenance data collection records
- Assist with installation and check-out of simulator and support equipment modifications
- Assist with general field site facility activities as required
- Work from engineering drawings and written or verbal instructions
- Apply comprehensive knowledge to solve complex problems by interpreting manufacturers' manuals or similar documents
- Perform other related duties as required by a site supervisor or program management
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Associates Degree in the electronics field or a two-year electronic technician resident course at an accredited technical institute and/or military technical training and equivalent electronics maintenance experience on equipment of similar complexity
- Must have at least 2 years' electronic maintenance experience and have demonstrated competence by satisfactory progressive performance in electronic maintenance on simulation systems of comparable complexity to those supported on this program
- This is an overseas Field Service position and may require travel to other overseas locations.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in integrated multi-computer systems, video generation and display systems, complex digital interfaces, high density cable/plug repair, software maintenance, and comprehensive troubleshooting and repair of general training device peripheral systems
- CompTia certification in one or both of the following: Security+ and/or Network+
Security Responsibilities:
Must comply with all company security and data protection / usage policies and procedures. Personally responsible for proper marking and handling of all information and materials, in any form. Shall not divulge any information, or afford access, to other employees not having a need-to-know. Shall not divulge information outside company without management approval. All government and proprietary information will be accessed and stored electronically on company provided resources.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
This job operates in office, classroom, and simulator environments. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
- Must be able to walk and/or climb stairs and ladder into a simulator or airplane cockpit.
- Must be able to stoop, bend, and crawl on top of or under the device.
- Must be able to detect odors or hear noises, bangs, etc., or other sounds to detect problems or flaws in the functioning of simulators and its surrounding environment.
- Must be able to distinguish colors.
- Shop floor environment.
- Will be working in areas with risk of electrical shock from electronically moving mechanical parts.
- Will at times be exposed to the following conditions: extreme heat, airborne particles, loud noises.
