Job summary
Amazon is seeking a Data Engineer to own the analytical data platform for an emerging business in transportation. We are an entrepreneurial team looking for someone who adheres to the highest data quality & governance standards, and embraces ambiguity.
About the role:
Your role will be to pioneer a self-service feature repository serving multiple stakeholders. Data pipelines will originate from AWS-based infrastructure and require familiarity with tools such as Redshift, Secret Manager, Glue ETL, Spectrum, and Athena. You will own the global data model and be responsible for incrementally advancing it as a single source of truth for statistical models, distributed systems, and individual users. You will help with native AWS migrations. You will build and maintain native AWS-based “operational excellence utilities,” and advise on feature enhancements.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated strength in data modeling, ETL development, and data warehousing
- Experience with Redshift, PostgreSQL, etc.
- Ability to develop and tune SQL to provide optimized solutions to the business
- Knowledge and direct experience using business intelligence reporting tools (such as Tableau, Quick Sight, etc.)
- 2+ years of experience using AWS-based data technologies such as Redshift, Athena, Spectrum, Secret Manager, and Glue ETL.
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field or 5+ years industry experience
- Coding proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Python, Ruby, Java, etc.)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience building data products incrementally and integrating and managing datasets from multiple sources
- Experience building/operating highly available, distributed systems of data extraction, ingestion, and processing of large data sets
- Experience providing technical leadership and mentor other engineers for the best practices on the data engineering space
- Experience using Linux/UNIX
- Proven success in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements, describe data modeling decisions and data engineering strategy
- Ability to work on a diverse team or with a diverse range of coworkers
