Job Description
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, (Island Health) patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position. This position provides leadership, direction, and guidance to various medical staff in Island Health regarding the management of medical device technology to ensure its ongoing safety and effectiveness. This responsibility involves the development, modification, testing and repair of medical equipment and devices to ensure that they are completed in a safe, efficient, effective and cost-sensitive manner. This includes advising users on proper and safe operations, acting as project manager for substantial projects intended to improve existing care delivery systems, capital equipment planning, incident investigations, and design and maintenance of the Island Health medical device information system.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
A Masters degree in Engineering, or combination of education and experience, with eligibility for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers of BC. Demonstrated proficiency in the operation of a broad range of electronic test equipment and medical instruments. Familiarity with computer programming and operation. Four years related experience including exposure to Biomedical Engineering in a Hospital environment required.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with all levels of staff within Island Health and external agencies, vendors and suppliers.
- Demonstrated organizational, communication and project management skills.
- Ability to analyze unexpected problems with medical equipment and to resolve them with minimum disruption to the department.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
