Job Description:

Policies and procedures:
  • Provides biomedical engineering services, including implementing effective policies, procedures, processes, and systems to ensure compliance with all medical requirements.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement in service quality
Day-to-Day Activities:
  • Assures the day-to-day maintenance of a quality management system, including the identification of risk issues, conducting investigations and audits, as well as ensuring corrective and preventive action is taken.
  • As needed, serves as a medical equipment technology expert on hospital committees
  • The proper use of equipment should be taught to clinicians and other personnel
  • Performs or coordinates assembly, installation, and safety inspections of new medical equipment
  • Provides specifications for new equipment purchases and recommends replacement of obsolete or irreparable equipment.
  • Evaluation of new products as requested
  • Investigates incidents involving medical equipment and employees
  • Diagnoses malfunctions, performs repairs, and coordinates recalls on medical equipment and performs safety related repairs and improvements
  • Management of equipment service contracts, warranty compliance, and departmental service level agreements
  • Provides data and analysis for the biomedical engineering director pertaining to departmental operations and performance as required
Designing and developing:
  • Provides design, testing, and development of a variety of medical devices, such as prosthetic limbs, artificial valves, joint replacements, and other clinical equipment
  • Engineers systems and products, such as artificial organs, devices that replace body parts, and machines for diagnosing health problems
  • Installs, adjusts, maintains, repairs, or provides technical support for medical equipment
  • Develops software to run complicated instruments, such as three-dimensional x-ray machines
Safety Requirements:
  • Assesses the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of biomedical equipment
  • Plan equipment testing and repair activities based on the urgency of the situation
  • Schedules preventative maintenance in accordance with the quality assurance plan
Operational Standards:
  • Implements and continuously improves biomedical engineering management programs, including operational standards and effective key performance indicators for the industry
  • Assists with medical equipment services in terms of service, delivery, efficiency, and cost effectiveness
Achieving Team Goals:
  • Establishes and maintains effective communication systems within the department that ensure the team, managers and supervisors work together to achieve the department's goals
  • Executes all duties in a professional, effective, and confidential manner
  • Performs performance reviews for reporting employees by setting measurable goals and objectives and incorporating the organization's values
  • Motivates, organizes, and encourages teamwork among employees in order to meet productivity targets

  • Coordination of the purchase of new equipment and other hospital infrastructure related materials with purchase, finance and project departments
  • Quotes best price with external partners for new equipment based on information from the HOD and end users
