Job Description:
- Perform metallurgical examination (like macro examination, microstructure examination, grain size, inclusion count, banding index, phase balance, nodularity), corrosion testing (like ASTM A 262, ASTM G48, ASTM G28, ASTM A 923) and chemical analysis (OES) on various ferrous and non-ferrous alloys
- Perform mechanical testing with a minimum of hands-on experience in tensile testing, bend testing, Charpy impact testing, and hardness testing
- Providing technical and engineering leadership and supporting the development of new technologies within the laboratory
- Hold yourself accountable for accurate and timely release of testing data to customers, including signoffs of quality control data as acceptable
- Provide guidance on non-routine situation testing
- Supervise standard and/or routine technical problem-solving activities
- Interact with customers and witnesses on technical issues and questions
- Providing input and support on business development opportunities with new or existing customers
- Organize formal and informal presentations on conventional and/or routine testing to a wide range of stakeholders
- Contribute to the professional development of novice technicians and engineers within the local laboratory
- Apply various skills, methods, procedures, and materials to the examination and implementation of testing concepts and data
- Using both internal knowledge and industry and/or academic resources to reach testing conclusions
- Work varied shifts as required and also perform testing on site as determined by the company
- A working knowledge of safety and work culture in an ISO 17025 laboratory and a high level of expertise in the scope, core theories, concepts, terminologies, and boundaries of the engineering discipline chosen are required.
- An engineering degree in Metallurgy or Mechanical disciplines is required, as is 2 years' relevant post-degree engineering experience or advanced academic/professional qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to apply academic knowledge within the context of Element's business and in-depth understanding of testing concepts, as well as hands-on experience handling test equipment related to the responsibilities to be performed for this position.
- Analyze and compile testing data from the tests performed
- You need strong computer skills, as well as good oral and written communication skills in English, as well as an understanding of basic algebra and geometry
- The ability to work on well-defined issues, standard and/or routine tests, without significant guidance or supervision, and the ability to take initiative without waiting for further instructions
- Ability to decide on and implement appropriate testing methods and protocols, as well as lead and assign work as needed
- Laboratory technical capabilities and services are strongly influenced by analytical/technical knowledge
- Managing priorities and work time in accordance with supervisory goals and targets
- Demonstrate an ability to apply a wide variety of testing techniques in a rational and practical manner to examine issues and build solutions
