Throughout Iron Ox's growing process, we automate every step. In designing the ideal farm, we are taking a holistic approach from customized hydroponic, seed, and harvesting systems to multiple robot platforms.
In order to realize our vision of creating a farm that is optimized and intelligent, we are seeking a Robotics Engineering Manager to lead our team of robotics engineers.
Developing, deploying, and maintaining the robot code will be your responsibility. This role is ideal for robotics generalists. An ideal candidate will understand that firmware, high-level algorithms, and infrastructure all need to work together in order to produce a complete product.
As an engineer, you need to manage a team in addition to collaborating with engineering, operations, and growing teams. The best way to achieve long-term, strategic success will not only require you to roll up your sleeves and work on the problems that crop up constantly, but also plant seeds that bear longer-term, more strategic fruit.
What You'll Do
- Managing 5-15 robotics employees directly
- Plan and execute a hiring strategy based on team needs
- Ensure that our development process reliably delivers new versions of our software to the growing operation that makes actual food
- Collaboration between groups is essential to robotics; teamwork is a must!
- Oversee the implementation of new tools, processes, and procedures by researching, recommending, and researching
- Developing software engineering talent, training, and mentoring
- Ensure scalable, reliable, and maintainable technologies are developed by assisting the team to make decisions, keep moving forward, and propose changes and improvements
What You'll Bring
- Software development and shipping experience for 5+ years
- Having designed product roadmaps, assigned tasking, managed performance, and developed career paths as a leader for engineering teams for over 3 years
- Extensive experience building cohesive teams, including sourcing, recruiting, interviewing, and hiring outstanding engineers.
- Production experience with Python and C++. I am comfortable conducting code reviews.
- Experience with ROS
- Analytical and communication skills are strong
- BS or MS in Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent work experience
Nice-to-HAVES
- Experience with development tools such as AWS, Dockers, and Ansible
- Working experience in a startup environment
- Having an interest in agriculture
- Hats are available upon request; denim overalls must be provided by the wearer
