My IELTS Story Tips for those who wish to crack IELTS with 8777 criteria.

Hello Members, I want to share a few things about my IELTS journey. I believe that whatever I have written here is going to be very helpful and if I got to know these same things about one or two years back, I would have saved some time and money. I live in Ahmedabad, Gujarat and I have had faced great ordeals in coming up the required bands. I went to a few coaching institutes; I gave three attempts, I also have experience with rechecking my writing in my second attempt and the scored remained unchanged. Here are my recent scores and little details on what I learned through this journey

Listening: 8.5

Reading: 8.5

Writing: 7.5

Speaking: 7.0 (scored 7.5 in the previous attempt)

Overall band: 8.0


I am going to jot down a few key points below which I believe is the bodhi satva for people who wish to crack IELTS with 8777 criteria.

1. You definitely need coaching to be prepared for IELTS.

2. This is very very important. There are IELTS classes everywhere in India and many of these classes are being conducted by people who are most likely proficient in English but haven't appeared for IELTS examination themselves. Select a teacher who has appeared for IELTS and achieved the desired score. I went to several institutes and asked the tutors bluntly if they have given IELTS. If your tutor does not have an IELTS qualification, please do not waste your time and money. This again is my personal experience because I have had unqualified tutors teaching me English, which was good but it was a time consuming and unnecessary process.

3. Do not run after material, there is a lot everywhere and just practicing 2 to 3 books of Cambridge will do.

4. Check out writing topics of recent IELTS exam, they are extremely helpful.

5. In many coaching institutes, your tutor will only check your grammar in writing tasks. However, you may have made a mistake in your Listening and Reading answers and tutor or yourself may not pay any heed to it. Pay attention to singular, plural, sentences, conjunction, etc. Small errors here and there will make you lose marks in the real examination.

6. You are not allowed to get up for washroom breaks once the exam starts. Try to give your mock tests without any breaks.

7. Prioritize Task 2 of writing before Task 1. Use your best energy in high priority tasks.

8. I was myself a victim of the thought process where I felt that being fluent in the English language is enough to score 8777. However, I was wrong.

9. Practice and right guidance is the key.

10. Last but not least, if you opt for any big coaching institutes (there are many in every city) you should definitely ask for the IELTS qualification of your dedicated tutor. In my personal experience, I have seen that even these big coaching institutes do not have qualified IELTS tutor.

11. IELTS coach or any institute will be an accessory only if your basics are clear in the English language.

12. I see these ads of immigration agencies everywhere. However, scoring in IELTS is a priority as compared to finding a good immigration agency. You can find a good immigration agency but it's not necessary that they would have qualified IELTS coach that can help you. Your main priority before you even give money for immigration or WES is to clear IELTS. So find a good coach.

13. Stop running after free tips. Start finding the right person who can coach you and start practicing towards your goal.
