Job Details:
  • Receiving the samples is your responsibility. Check the labels on the test tubes for the patient's name, order number, and the tests that will be performed.
  • Accesses the lab computer, accepts the samples, and prints out the IP sample requisitions.
  • Keeps track of the time it takes the lab to receive the samples.
  • Heparinized samples are promptly centrifuged. Before centrifuging, waits for the samples taken without anticoagulant to coagulate.
  • After entering the patient's information and the tests requested in the master register, carefully label the test tubes.
  • Transfers plasma/serum into test tubes with the required labels.
  • If specific tests are requested, writes the details of those tests in the appropriate registers and notifies the technologist; if electrophoresis samples are requested, notifies the HOD or the Registrar.
  • If a patient needs both routine and special testing, he separates the sample in half and freezes the portion that will be used for special tests.
  • Prioritizes samples in any batch, with the highest priority given to Prioritize ICU samples over outpatient samples in patient samples, emergency samples in IP, and MHC samples in OP.
  • After labelling the samples, transfers them to auto analyzer cups and records the results from the auto analyzer monitor once the test is completed.
  • Takes a printout of the result and enters it in the appropriate registers.
Checks the results for the following:
  • Along with the results, checks the auto analyzer monitor for any flagged alarms.
  • Repeat the test in dilutions if the result is abnormal or above the upper detection limit. If the results are inconsistent, request a new sample and re-analyze the results.
  • Before distributing such reports, notifies the Head of Department/Registrar.
  • All blood gas samples, electrolyte samples, cardiac indicators, and other urgent samples are processed on a 24-hour basis.
  • Informs the ICUs and the Emergency Room with the results immediately via phone.
  • After cross-checking the typed reports, he signs them and sends them to the Department Head for signature before dispatching them.
  • Wears gloves, apron, and other aseptic measures during the sample handling process.
  • He is authorized to sign all urgent outpatient and inpatient reports in the absence of the Technologist or Senior Technologist. Technician.
  • Perform regular maintenance on the auto analyzer, blood gas analyzer, and other lab equipment.
  • In the event of any errors/ breakdown of equipment, inform the HOD & biomedical department.
  • Informs the Sr. Technician when any kit is getting over or inform purchase dept in the absence of the Sr. Technician.
  • Informs HOD on phone during night shift in event of any problem.
  • Responsible to note down relevant notes in the duty handover register.
  • Any other responsibility as deemed fit from time to time by the Management.
