Unlock your ambition, turn ideas into world-changing realities, and join an organization where every voice makes a difference, and every difference builds a healthier world.
Job Description
We are accepting applications from any location in England, Scotland and Wales! The start date will be in July 2023. Joining as a Field Service Trainee you will be assigned to a Service Area in the UK to begin a 2-year trainee program with a view to taking a permanent Field Service role at GE on completion. The role is to maintain and repair medical equipment, which may include GE-made equipment, and/or equipment of different vendors, within an assigned Service Area. Joining a team of experienced engineers, you will be assigned to a specific modality/equipment type of different manufactures and will be allocated a mentor to guide you. Your 2-year program will be a combination of official product training at one of our GE training centres, coupled with day-to-day on the job training with current experienced engineers. For those trainees who come to us without any relevant qualifications, you will also undertake a BTEC in Electronics as part of your traineeship. A company car, laptop, phone and toolkit will be provided.
Required Characteristics:
- You should have a strong interest in technology and an ambition for a future career in medical equipment Service.
- You should be a problem-solver by nature, able to think logically to successfully troubleshoot unfamiliar problems.
- You should be able to demonstrate manual dexterity and fine motor skills, with the ability to take things apart and put them back together again correctly.
- You should have great written and spoken communication skills, including the ability to communicate bad news in the right way, to build great relationships with your customers (hospital staff).
- You will have the benefit of a mentor to guide you, but you must have the natural common sense to be able to take good, timely decisions to maintain the safety of yourselves, your colleagues, customers, and patients when required.
- A career in Field Service entails travelling to different hospitals every day, requiring flexibility around start and finish times, sometimes not knowing ahead of time what your next assignment will be. We are looking for candidates who relish the idea of a role that will bring an unexpected new challenge every day.
- You must be willing, on occasion, to travel away from home to attend training courses (both within the UK and abroad) for a few days up to two weeks at a time.
- You will generally be required to drive 0.5-2 hours each way to different hospitals to attend services and breakdowns, further on occasion. A clean driver’s license is essential.
- You need to be organized and self-motivated, as you will be responsible for managing your own diary to attend on-the-job training, complete admin tasks, study, and online training in a timely manner.
- High standards, attention to detail and a commitment to quality are a must-have in this highly regulated medical equipment industry where you will be learning to service and repair life-saving medical devices.
- You should have basic IT literacy. Candidates with advanced IT skills will be viewed favorably.
