This is your role. What part will you play?
Reporting to the Head of Development, you will be involved in full-stack software development within the Siemens MAS change development team. You will be part of an Agile delivery team of talented developers, analysts and QA with a freedom to take on additional roles such as Architecture, Scrum Mastering, Leadership, Mentoring, Customer liaison and Line Management. You will be working on both greenfield projects and supporting/maintaining live systems with your team. Our industry moves quickly so we do too, making sure we’re developing on the best technologies on offer. Your voice will be heard and you will have power to enact change and make our business the best place it can be.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop software under the Agile (Scrum at Scale) methodology using the following technologies (not limited to):
- AWS Serverless (Lambda, Step Functions, RDS, S3 etc.)
- Python
- Javascript & Typescript Frameworks – React, Node
- Low-code platforms such as PEGA or Mendix
- SQL and No-SQL (Oracle, Mongo, DynamoDB)
- Ensure code is developed to a high standard following time, cost, and quality standards.
- Follow BDD and TDD best practices to improve code quality and test coverage.
- Review requirements and ensure they are fit for purpose while discovering the WHY and HOW.
- Review and assist QA in development of test plans.
- Perform code reviews of other team member’s work.
- Identify and own the software development process of the team, proposing improvements, and interfacing to management to progress continuous process improvement.
- Actively engage in collaborative sessions such as Sprint Ceremonies, Training, Peer Programming etc.
- Maintenance and support of existing systems in production.
What does it take to be successful in this role?
- Degree/HND educated in a technical discipline, ideally Computer Science.
- Minimum of 1-2 years professional development experience with focus on JavaScript-based Frameworks, AWS and DBMS’s.
- Working knowledge of Restful Web Services, and Web API technologies.
- Understanding of web-based GUI design, and JavaScript application frameworks.
- Capable of defining and documenting functional and non-functional requirements related to product features, with associated test plans. Capable of review of such technical artifacts produced by others.
- Understanding of Agile vs Traditional programming methodologies.
- Experience with professional software engineering best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing and operations.
- Any exposure to Amazon Web Services, Test Driven Development, Continuous Integration and Test Automation, CI/CD pipelines would be beneficial.
- Good technical communication skills and a pragmatic approach to software delivery in a fast paced and challenging environment
- Sector experience is beneficial but no means mandatory - worked in the Energy and/or Utilities sector with knowledge of UK energy industry, Smart Metering, Smart Grid, Asset Management, Field Services, Resource Planning
