Apex Systems is seeking a Biocompatibility Engineer to join our client, a leader in the medical device industry in Jacksonville, FL. This is a 15 month contract to start, with potential to extend or convert into a permanent position. Job Summary:
Responsible for research project planning, executing, and reporting with regards to assessment of manufacturing materials and biological safety of devices as well as cleaning specifications, analytical testing development and biological safety assessments. Acts as scientific liaison between external key opinion holders and the company. Collaborates in project work as SME with departments like process engineering, manufacturing, quality and regulatory as well as with other company sites, and external suppliers.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implement Biological Safety Risk Assessments and develop testing strategies for medical devices - new products, manufacturing process changes, changes in manufacturing contact materials, etc.
- Preparation of internal technical documents such as technical reviews, specifications, and other documents for regulatory submissions
- Review and prepare procedures to keep up with standards development
- Educate colleagues across departments and divisions about biological safety evaluations, risk assessments, and chemical characterization
- Attend conferences, conferences, courses, and other educational opportunities that are relevant to the field of medicine and science.
- Conduct a manufacturing materials assessment (contact materials)
- Developing and generating training materials and data presentations for staff

Expected Areas of Competence (i.e., knowledge, skills and abilities):
- Ability to demonstrate advanced knowledge of material science, engineering, analytical chemistry, and lab practices as applicable to assigned responsibilities.
- Communicates complex scientific topics in a clear and comprehensible manner.
- Possess strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as presentation skills. Ability to tailor the information to the audience and answer scientific questions with confidence and authority.
- Ability to solve problems. The ability to identify potential solutions to a situation, analyze them, and implement them in a timely manner
- Possess good oral and written communication skills.
Education/Experience Requirements:
- A Ph.D. or M.S. degree in mechanical/biomedical engineering or related technical field is preferred. At least a B.S. is required.
- 3 - 5+ years of relevant research/testing experience preferred
Travel Requirements:
Up to 15%
